Terraforming Solar System Objects

 solarplanetsterraformedce0

A nice terraforming art by Wyrmshadow. The idea is that everything up to 200 miles are being terraformed. The smallest object here is Mimas, one of the moon of Saturn. Mimas is so small that everything on the moon weight about 0,006 times that on Earth (correct me if I’m wrong), imagine what kind of ocean would it be in Mimas with that kind of gravity… :)

The only thing that bothers me is the way the city light looks shiny in the day hemisphere. It looks like a dirt or an error on the texture, but overall it is awesome.

  1. Don't you mean 99.4% lighter? 0.6% lighter doesn't sound light at all.

  2. sorry my bad, it's supposed to be 0.6% times that on Earth (the weight). Thanks for the correction :)

  4. How could these terraformed planets live without sunlight in the outer areas? Would we convert one of the gas giants into a star like the 2001: A Space Odyssey sequel "2010: The Year We Made Contact"?

  5. Well there is the possibility of putting in place a series of mirror satellites arranged in a way to focus more sunlight to the outer planets.

Or, as was the solution in the Mars Trilogy, using some sort of giant gas lanterns in low orbit around the gas giants (sometimes coupled with solettas around the moons) to provide local light.
